Comecon- The Eastern (mainly Soviet) reply to the OEEC (Organization of European Economic Co-operation). Stalin basically forces Eastern nations to join his group, to fight OEEC.
Kennedy- Kennedy's first few months in office were an embarrassment. Failed Bay of Pig Invasion in April, 1961; Soviet put the first man in orbit around the moon; a summit conference at Vienna in June where Khrushchev renewed his Berlin ultimatum; and in August, East Germany's unopposed construction of the Berlin Wall. Finally, he called Khrushchev's bluff, therefore the American's had regained the upper hand.
